Breath, Voice and Movement Workshop with Peggy Baker and Fides Krucker
Kickstart Festival 2010 is pleased to present a first-ever event with two of Canada’s top talents – choreographer Peggy Baker and vocalist Fides Krucker teaming up to teach a four-hour breath, voice and movement workshop! The four-hour workshop will take place at the Scotiabank Dance Centre from 11:30am to 3:30pm on Sunday, March 14, 2010.
The point of departure for the workshop leaders is the creative work they have been engaged in while preparing Peggy Baker and musician Ahmed Hassan’s work “Geometry of the Circle” for Kickstart’s copresentation with the Vancouver International Dance Festival in March, 2010.
The session will begin with partnered breath work, then individual and group vocal exploration around the piano with Fides. The second half will progress to a physical warm up with Peggy based on the work of neuromuscular specialist Irene Dowd. Participants will then be able to develop solo and unison material, which can be combined with the vocal work.
The work will be adapted to the various unique needs and abilities of participants. Artists and performers from a variety of disciplines will find it encouraging to their creative process.
There will be a 12-person limit for the workshop, with a mixture
of people with and without disabilities. If you would like to
participate, please send an email to info@kickstart-arts.ca
and tell us your experience with voice or movement training,
if any, or with disability arts in any form, as well as a brief
statement about why you’d like to take the workshop. Application deadline now extended until March 12th at 5pm pacific time. You'll be confirmed no later than 1pm on March 13th. The workshop fee will be $35.
This workshop is presented in collaboration with New Works (www.newworks.ca).
